Equine Misting Systems Limit Effects from Heat

August 10, 2015 By Bryan Roe

Our service team went on site to visit one of our long-standing clients who has a particular passion for horses. It’s always a pleasure for our company to assist our equine friends and we take pride in creating solutions to champion animal safety, health, and happiness.

Our equestrian friends know exactly where to hang out

In this case, our Koolfog equine misting systems have been installed in our client’s barn/paddock area to keep the stalls at a comfortable temperature. As the photo depicts, the spacing of the mist lines is appropriate to deliver optimum coverage and the installation seems to cool the horses perfectly.

Throughout California, the weather has not only been seasonally hot but temperatures continue to soar, making animal husbandry a bit more difficult. Without proper cooling in the warmest environs, horses can suffer from heat stress, anhidrosis (deadening or loss of sensitivity to the animal’s sweat glands) and in severe cases heat stroke. Breeders and horse enthusiasts might recognize symptoms such as profuse sweating, rapid breathing, panting, dry, hot skin or a high rectal temperature. These conditions can lead to potentially lethal consequences but can easily be managed with high-pressure misters.

The evaporative nature of the misting nozzles allows the atmosphere to cool without “wetting” the stalls or creating too much ground moisture; a condition that could also be detrimental to large animals.

However, happy and healthy equine environments can be created to ensure the best for these creatures. A top quality stable cooling system can lower temperatures by as much as 35 degrees F, which would be a very significant stride toward solving health concerns while ensuring a comfortable environment for your horses to thrive.

When the system was flipped on, the quality of the design and installation were apparent as the mist billowed out and instantly cooled the facility with incredible precision. We could see that the horses seemed to like the refreshing climate inviting the horses to eat in comfort. As this mare walked to its meal, our team, again, felt honored to be fortunate enough to be a part of natures beauty and in sustaining the health and happiness of our equine friends.
