The Atacama is our commercial, industrial high-pressure pump line and is designed for the most sophisticated & high-volume misting and humidification applications. Named after what’s considered the driest region in the world, the Atacama high pressure pump is equally impressive and suited to extreme environments. The Atacama is offered in 5 gpm to 25 horse power models with maximum flow rates from 4.5 gpm to 22 gpm (17 to 83 lpm).
Ingenuity went into designing a product line suited to such high demand by remaining true to the concepts of maximum efficiency and engineered reliability. The Atacama VFD series incluedes an optional programmable logic controller (PLC) and variable frequency drive (VFD) adjusts the motor speed and output based on pressure or zoning, in essence, managing fog output to defined parameters and operating energy and water efficient.

The Atacama A5.0VFD-DD pump is a perfect bridge between our lower-flow commercial, industrial pumps and our line of Atacama belt-driven pumps. Delivering a variable flow of .5 – 5 gpm, the A5.0VFD-DD can support larger fog applications but in an easy to maintain direct drive format.
The A5.0VFD-DD is a variable frequency drive unit and will operate in constant pressure or variable pressure applications. It operates multiple zones independently without running the chance of damaging pump head seals due to excessive bypass. Additionally, with several input options the Atacama allows for remote control from facilities management systems to weather stations or theatrical show controls.

Atacama Misting Pump Features
Ingenuity went into designing a product line suited to such high demand by remaining true to the concepts of maximum efficiency and engineered reliability. The optional programmable logic controller (PLC) and variable frequency drive (VFD) adjusts the motor speed and output based on pressure or zoning, in essence, managing fog output to defined parameters and operating energy and water efficient.
Due to the nature of high volume misting or fog, we’ve added a basic feature set that is tailored to commercial and industrial use. All Koolfog Atacama high-pressure fog pumps are equipped with a dual high volume water filtration system to clear water of debris or sediment that can potentially obstruct nozzles. In addition, each Atacama high pressure misting pump comes equipped with 4 service gauges – two glycerin filled inlet gauges that monitor both the incoming supply and actual water supply to the pump unit, one discharge gauge monitoring output pressure and an hour meter to provide hours of use for preventative maintenance scheduling. A regulator/unloader sets discharge pressure to bypass any unused flow while a pulsation dampener minimizes wear and tear on components. Also included is a safety relief valve to prevent over-pressure.
For more sophisticated applications such as special effects, humidification, or multi-zone control, an optional PLC offer variable pressure or constant pressure operation. Along with the safety mechanisms in place, the PLC control assures that creating robust mist and fog is not only possible but sustainable and controllable.
Inspiration for our Atacama Fog Pumps
Named after what’s considered the driest region in the world, the Atacama high pressure pump is equally impressive and suited to extreme environments. The Atacama Desert is a region of particular interest due to its soil composition which mirrors that of the planet Mars. The magnitude of dry heat for this area is evident by the 120,000 years of dry river beds. There have been weather stations located in the Atacama that have never felt a rain drop and there is evidence to suggest that no significant rain fell from 1570-1971. This desert holds the secret of future research for planetary missions, secrets of adaptability and the utter sublimity nature can provide. We chose to name our leader in industrial, commercial and humidification fog applications after these sentiments to offer ingenuity and high quality. We mimic the biological adaptability of the Atacama desert by the adaptability we’ve meticulously engineered into the Atacama high pressure misting and fog pumps.
