Engineering High Quality Within the Misting System Industry

April 11, 2013 By Bryan Roe

Since the early days of the industrial revolution, breakthrough innovations have focused on technological inventions that market ease, practicality and, at times, alter the way we approach life. Misting systems, like many other technologies are being applied to different applications to create environments that are controlled and comfortable. Misting is still very much an early adopter market, however, it may be paving the way for changing the way we define comfort.

Cheap alternatives have cut the Achilles’ heel of many early adopters, often taking advantage of the sacrifices and reputations of these industry pioneers. Although it is often quality, not price, that drives an industry towards standards that are ultimately in the best interest of the customer.

At Koolfog, we take an approach that bases engineering decisions on quality rather than cost. This is illustrated in the selection of components found within our line of high pressure misting pumps and is applied to every element that within a Koolfog outdoor cooling system including misting nozzles, atomization line, fittings and even fasteners.

Establishing our standards starts at the “heart” of a misting system – the high-pressure pump. At Koolfog, we design and manufacture our misting pumps claiming proudly “made in the USA”. We select only the highest quality components to complete our designs. One of the main components, the proven CAT plunger pump head, is uniquely suited to commercial applications. That translates to long hours of constant use without fear of breakdown. After over 25 years of testing and evaluating pump heads, we can clearly claim that we have the track record to support our selection.

Coupled with the pump head is a totally enclosed fan cooled motor that protects Koolfog misting systems against the harshness of the elements and regulates the operating temperature to keep everything running smoothly. Elemental stress not only misses the motor entirely, but everything under the hood of our protective and rust proof polyethylene enclosure.

Included in our Koolfog misting pumps are additional components whose purpose is to protect the system as a whole. Our inlet water safety switch is added to avoid accidental damage to the pump when the water is turned off before the misting system is. Our discharge solenoid valves releases pressure when the water is turned off to minimize unnecessary wear on our misting nozzles brought on by residual pressure trapped in the system. And our dual filtration system systematically removes harsh elements out of the water so your mist is pure and clean while keeping nozzles clear and working.

If that wasn’t enough, we added an additional layer of enhancements to optimize serviceability as well as give the end-user the liberty and resources to troubleshoot almost any problem themselves. 95% of issues with a misting system can be identified and solved by the three front gauges (and the majority of issues are related to outside dependencies). The first gauge is an hour meter that allows you to monitor run-time and allows you to proactively schedule recommended service intervals. The second gauge shows supply pressure to help identify water source issues and the third gauge is for discharge pressure which indicates the level of pressure being pushed through the system. This can be used to determine if there are breaks in the line, pump seals are worn or simply to help set the discharge pressure of your system. Even our lines, fittings and nozzles are evidence of our thoughtful practices and impenetrable commitment to quality. All lines including the choice of a versatile nylon hose or a more formidable stainless steel line is specifically rated to high-pressure applications (including all fittings). Our stainless steel line is welded, not fitted, to minimize potential “leak points” throughout the system.

Each misting or fog nozzle emits atomized water through a hole smaller the size of a human hair. We have found that even a slight lack of concern in the machining of these nozzles can produce minute metal shavings that obstruct them, completely erasing the effectiveness of any misting system.

Creating momentum for innovation can only be accomplished by developing a strong reputation: a reputation that produces repeat customers and eventually leads to brand awareness. Koolfog is committed to our brand and caters to early adopters by focusing on quality. We feel that a quality misting system where each detail from the beginning pump to the end nozzle has been scrutinized and designed with the customer in mind is the only way to establish clear expectations within the market. Our goal is delivering a product to the public with their wishes, needs and demands in mind long before they even know what to prefer.
