When temperatures rise, animals can have a difficult time keeping cool. Many animals don’t have internal mechanisms to help them cool down and are limited to outside resources such as shade and ponds to help them deal with extreme heat. Zoos are dedicated to the health, safety and comfort of their animals and strive to create habitats that provide ample cooling opportunities. Koolfog has partnered with many zoos and animal sanctuaries to provide custom cooling solutions for animal enclosures.
Animals can be susceptible to heat exhaustion, dehydration, sun burns, effects on reproduction and other heat stress symptoms. Some species can be affected as temperatures reach the 80s and many more animals become ill as temperatures continue to rise. Koolfog misting systems at zoo facilities can reduce ambient temperatures up to 30°, providing a respite for animals to keep them cool and healthy and protect them from extreme temperatures.
Zoos have become much more proactive, incorporating a variety of cooling resources for animals. Koolfog works with animal organizations to create custom misting solutions for particular animal enclosures or habitats and can be adapted for large and unique areas. Certain systems can safely be located in or near animal environments and high-quality Koolfog components and manufacturing ensure many years of cooling.
Recent Koolfog animal cooling partnerships include:
• Rocky Gap State Park, MD, Birds of Prey Aviary
• Tracy Aviary, UT, Bird Aviary
• Miami Seaquarium, FL, Penguin Exhibit
• The Oasis Sanctuary, AZ, Exotic Bird Rescue
• Zoo Atlanta, GA, Bird Aviary
Humans are also susceptible to heat exhaustion and general irritability when dealing with extreme temperatures at zoos. That’s why Koolfog keeps people cool at zoos too. We recently worked with Miami Zoo, FL, to incorporate fog and cooling effects into the newly unveiled front entrance sculptures. Fog effects add visual interest while also providing an inviting area for visitors to cool down.
It’s a thrill and a privilege to see the vast variety of animals from many different regions in zoos and animal sanctuaries around the country. Koolfog is proud to be a partner in creating custom cooling solutions for animals. By providing additional cooling options, zoos are able to protect animals against the effects of rising temperatures, keeping them safe, healthy and comfortable.
